News

Women Aware celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2009!  We were formally organized as an Iowa non-profit corporation in 1979.  We were formed to serve the needs of displaced homemakers, a growing population in the 70's that was unfamiliar with navigating public and private services tthat would lift their family out of poverty.

Milestones:
1985 - Our first Women of Excellence banquet and awards ceremony.
1988 - Women Aware admitted as an agency member of the United Way of Siouxland.
2005 - The certification scholarship program established with United Way's Women's Power Lunch Committee.
2006 - We moved to our current offices in the Commerce Building.
2006 - We sponsored our first bike ride event, Wheeling for Women Aware.
2008 - Women Aware designated by the Waitt Foundation to administer the Waitt Single Parent Scholarship program.

Perfect opportunity to prepare for RAGBRAI!

Riders depart from the set up station at Adams Homestead & Nature Preserve in North Sioux City, IA between 7:30-9:00 a.m.   Family rides available on the 7.5 miles of crushed limestone trails within the preserve, or choose from a 50-mile, 35-mile or 20 route to South Dakota destinations.
Enjoy mostly flat roads, take in the scenery, which may include buffalo and stop at our sponsors along the way to sign up for door prizes!
Sag wagons, maps, aid station, a post-ride picnic and more chances at door prizes make this a ride for all to enjoy.

Women of Excellence Banquet and Awards Ceremony every March honors and celebrates outstanding Siouxland women and all they do to contribute to the betterment of their Siouxland community.
